What are the aims of this course?

On this course you'll gain the basic practical experience required in Motor Vehicle Studies, as well as knowledge of the automotive sector. Once you've completed this course you'll have work-related skills, generic employability skills, the opportunity to go on to further training and a good insight in to the motor vehicle area.

As well as the topics covered below, maths and English are a considerable part of the course & must also be completed.

This course will cover introductions to:

- Health and safety awareness
- Motor vehicle workshop tools and equipment
- Principles of engine components and operations
- Checking and maintaining vehicle fluid levels
- Checking and maintaining motor vehicle external lights
- Checking and maintaining car tyre pressure and tread
- Removing and replacing motor vehicle road wheels
- Motorcycle construction
- Routine motorcycle checks
- Routine braking system checks
- Routine vehicle checks
- Cleaning a vehicle exterior and interior
- Removing and replacing spark plugs

What qualifications do I need to do this course?

New Entrants: No formal qualifications but a keen interest in developing your learning and employability skills and a successful admissions interview. Once on programme an aptitude and skills assessment will be completed to ensure you are enrolled on the appropriate course.

How is the course assessed?

The course will be assessed through question papers and practical assessment

Entry 3 Diploma in Motor Vehicle Studies

What will I be able to go on to do after I've completed this course?

You could progress onto the ABC Level 1 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Motor Vehicle Studies and then onto a Level 2 automotive qualification such as the ABC Level 2 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Motor Vehicle Studies, or onto a Level 2 Apprenticeship.
