What's the Biology course about?

This course will further develop many of the typical topics you studied at school, and introduces some of the exciting areas of biology in the modern world, for example, the influence that genes have on development, environmental issues and aspects of human health. In addition to gaining some understanding of the dynamic and exciting nature of biology today, you will develop an awareness of the ethical, technological and economic aspects of the subject. Biology is a practical science subject so you should expect to undertake some experimentation.

The course includes the study of:
-Basic biochemistry and organisation
-Biodiversity and physiology of body systems
-AS practical assessment

Through an assessed practical and external exams at the end of the year.

What will I be able to do after I've completed this course?

Successful completion of the course, in combination with other AS or A levels, can lead directly to a wide range of higher education courses. Advice on opportunities for further study will be provided during your course.

What qualifications or experience do I need to do this course?

Five GCSE A*- C, and at least a B grade in Chemistry, or BB grades in dual award science.

Which qualification will I be awarded if I successfully complete the Biology course?

On succesful completion of this course you will be awarded an AS level in Biology.
